Cancer is still a major concern for women today and most feel that not enough is being done to fight it, our international cancer survey found.

It seems that ignorance is not bliss when it comes to cancer – most women we spoke to are not aware of the benefits of early detection in the prevention of cancer.
Despite the international attention cancer has received in recent years, it remains a mystery to many women across Europe and the Americas. Information gained from books, magazines and the internet has done little to dispel the fear of cancer with most women surveyed considering themselves to be badly or too little informed on the subject.

Almost 90% of respondents in every country said they had a genuine fear of getting cancer. This fear could stem from a widely held belief that there is still not enough medical research done to fight cancers.

Only some 5 percent of women know of charities that help women affected by cancer. Only in the UK where 36% of respondents have been affected by cancer themselves (others around 8-10 %) are cancer charities well known (65%). And it seems that while there is a general disappointment in the work being done to fight cancer, only women in the UK are actively looking to improve the situation by regularly donating to cancer support or research charities.
