Thanks to advances in technology, today we can get a smooth and firm face without having to go under the knife. The solution is laser resurfacing.
In one single session, laser penetrates the skin deeply, firming and toning the skin. But this method is painful (a general anesthetic might be administered by the doctor) and its side effects are significant.
Target: Wrinkles, imperfections due to repeated sun exposure.
How does it work? The laser works on the same principle as peeling. Its abrasive action rubs away the surface of the skin, layer by layer, to reveal a new epidermis.
Post-treatment: As the skin has been laid bare, there's redness, swelling and weeping. This technique usually requires 10 to 15 days for healing and creams are applied for around 8 days. A higher sun protection factor is essential for 6 months afterwards.
Result: The cells, stimulated by the action of the laser, renew themselves gradually, deep wrinkles disappear, and skin is more radiant and firm.
Price: From £200 to £4000 per session.
Note: Microdermabrasion is less harsh and gives an identical result but with fewer side-effects. 3 to 4 sessions, with a 3-week gap between, can treat the whole face over a gradual period. It costs around £50 to £100 per session.
