Types 1 and 2: Fair-skinned and red-headed people, who burn easily without tanning and Scandinavian-type skins which tan lightly, should avoid the sun and use high protection (factors 30-50) all holiday.

Type 3: Brunettes with fair skin who tan slowly but also burn easily, should start off on factor 30, then gradually come down to 20 or 15.

Type 4: Olive and dark-skinned people who tan easily without burning are the most resistant to sun damage.  If you don’t live in a sunny climate, you should start off on 30 for a couple of days however, before dropping to 15 and then 10.
