Choosing by Your Colouring

Choosing by Your Colouring

"Hair colour is like make-up for some women, bringing out their eyes and brightening their skin tone.  Carefully-chosen colour can completely rejuvenate your look,” explains celebrity hairdresser Jean-Marc Maniatis.  So, just as you would with make-up, choose the right shade.

-If you have pale skin and light blonde hair, go for shades of blonde ranging from ash to platinum.  Forget about intense golden blondes, as they won’t flatter your skin tone. For an energising colour, choose warm browns to create a flattering contrast.

-If you have rosy skin and dark blonde or light brown hair, choose warm browns and coppers to bring out the colour in your cheeks.  Avoid light browns, as they will wash you out, try try dark blonde or coppery red streaks instead.

-If you have olive skin and dark hair, browns and bright highlights – think mahogany, chocolate and plum - are for you.  Avoid golden copper colours or orangey colours which won’t suit your skin tone.  If you must try platinum blonde, only ever use this colour with a very short cut and a healthy tan, otherwise your skin tone will be left dull and grey.

-If you have pale skin with freckles, try strawberry, golden and copper blondes, but avoid darker colours which will drag your features and leave you looking pinched.  Red-toned highlights will brighten your skin.
