Tell us about Perfect Stranger.
It's a big thriller. I play Rowena, a newspaper reporter who goes undercover to investigate the murder of one of her childhood friends. In the course of her investigation she uses several different identities and uses online dating to get closer to her target, Harrison (Bruce Willis) whom she suspects is the killer.
Wasn't it a bit strange playing a character who in turn has to 'play' at being several people at once?
Yes, that was the real challenge of the film: playing at different identities without really knowing which was the real one. Before we began filming, I spent two whole weeks with the director James Foley, Bruce Willis and Giovanni Ribisi (who plays Rowena's computer geek friend in the film), just talking and brainstorming all the psychological aspects of our characters.
Are you an internet addict or aren't you bothered about the Web?
A bit of both, like a lot of people I guess. I use the internet a lot but I like having 'real' relationships; I like to actually see my friends and speak to them. And I'm one of those old-fashioned people who send thank-you letters...I think that's really charming!
What are your plans for the immediate furutre?
I'm producing a film project that stars Alicia Keys as a childhood pianist in the 1940s, but I don't play in the film. I'm also producing a film called Class Act that I do play in. It's based on the story of a teacher who wants to become an MP and who aks her students to write a letter to members of Congress to help her. It's all about courage and having the will to want to change things.
