soFem: James, where do you stand on environmental issues? There seem to be a lot of artists getting very actively involved in campaigns and causes at the minute; is that something that's important to you?
James: Absolutely. We've been screening a film called An Inconvenient Truth before my shows; I saw it and I thought it was hugely relevant. I travelled the world in my last job and also in this job and I think it's remarkable how as humans we've scarred the planet. I think it's really amazing how we say that you wouldn't burn your house down and yet our planet is our home and I think we have started to burn our own house down. I think there are many things that need to be done. I don't think it's necessarily important just for me as a musician to say so either, it's relevant for all human beings to get involved in immediately.
soFem: Do you think that as an artist you should use your fame to get involved personally and support issues that matter to you?
James: I think it's really...fortunate that I have a position where you ask me a question I can definitely speak about, that's of an interest. So I don't think it's my repsonsibility to chase anything that might be populist at the moment, but as a genuine belief, right here and with a camera in my face, I think that our greatest concern as human beings and in our generation for the future is the environment, is the climate change. We are responsible for phenomenal damage and it's incredible. The changes that are taking place right now for me are much more frightening than any notion of economy or power or control over this planet. It's our very home that we live in and its phenomenal damage that we've done.
