For the first time since becoming France’s First Lady, Carla Bruni is officially dedicating herself to a cause: the fight against AIDS. A cause that is particularly close to Carla's heart as her brother lost his life to the disease in 2006. She held a conference on World Aids Day to announce her role, and gave us this exclusive interview.
Carla, thanks for talking to us. You have an announcement to make about your new role. What will it consist of exactly?
I'm the ambassador to the Global Fund To Fight Aids, an organisation that raises public and private funds. I felt it important to make use of the media interest in me so I could help this organisation, which is not very well known, but which is nonetheless very efficient: between 2002 and 2007, it raised 6.5 million dollars for the fight against AIDS.
