Heath Ledger, Best Supporting Actor Golden Globe |
|
Heath Ledger's legacy lives on. The Australian actor, who tragically passed away after an accidental overdose of prescription drugs in 2008, was awarded a posthumous Globe for Best Supporting Actor. Critics, press and public alike agree his performance as The Joker in The Dark Knight (directed by Christopher Nolan), was something special.
Ledger had stiff competition, however, in the form of Tom Cruise and Robert Downey Jr, both nominated for their (very different) roles in Tropic Thunder, Philip Seymour Hoffman, who gave a dark and disturbing performance in Doubt (in cinemas 6th February), and Ralph Fiennes for The Duchess.
Ledger's mother told People magazine that the award will eventually go to his three-year-old daughter, Matilda Rose.
