Wool is, of course, a winter staple, and can be seen in ever-present anthracite, marine, chocolate and loden green. Flannel wool is the winner this season, followed by more precious wools and cashmere in designer collections. Look out for woolly skirts, trousers, suits and coats.

We like: it's sturdy, slightly military in cut, the iron grey colour is a winter classic.
