Emma Bell is a designer known for volcanic collections with explosive energy and kaleidescopic colour. For her second stand-alone London Fashion Week show Ms Bell declared: "I'm saving dogs". On a trip to Thailand she was so appalled by the canine abuse she witnessed, she had to express her passion for pooches through design.
The show started with a fabulous rendition of 'How Much Is That Doggy In The Window?' by a man in a doggy costume accompanied by a violin player beautifully suited with an oversized pink bow tie. Models (made of club kids and friends including Jodie Harsh) sported circus-style glitter make-up with enormous fake eye lashes expertly executed by Rachel Wood.
The clothes themselves tell mini-stories and feature an array of fantastic plastic, vinyl and foil fabrics formed into sci-fi spacey dresses with breast cones, harem pants and accentuated hip trousers for men. Doggy prints abounded and two excited West Highland terriers even made an appearance!
Further humour was added with her signature toy town accessories including Bambi-head necklaces and Gingerbread men body pieces. "I had a lot of fun making them," admitted the pink-haired designer backstage after the show. "My little brother helped me!" Very sexy wedges by Terry de Havilland and psychedelic print tights complemented the look perfectly.
Emma Bell's clothes are an outrageous exploration of fruity indulgence coated in debauchery and sprinkled generously with fun. Totally London and a perfect antidote to ordinary.
