Burberry opened its new US headquarters in spectacular style on 28th May, which was officially declared 'Burberry Day' by New York mayor Michael Bloomberg.
Burberry's new US HQ is situated at 444 Madison Avenue in the heart of New York's Manhattan district, and is one of only six skyscrapers in the city to carry an illuminated company logo. The Burberry sign is now inscribed in the iconic New York skyline, visible from far away. The building has 6350 m² of office space and two showrooms. It mirrors Burberry's global HQ in London (14 864 m²), designed by Creative Director Christopher Bailey.
After the lights were turned on, a cocktail party for over 300 guests was held by Christopher Bailey and CEO Angela Ahrendts. The guests watched the lights flash up for the first time from the top of the Palace Hotel. They included Orlando Bloom, Claire Danes, Blake Lively and Helena Christensen, all decked out in Burberry. Alexa Chung played a DJ set, and rockers One Night Only performed a live concert.
On the day of the official opening, the Burberry Foundation donated $500,000 to the Robin Hood association to support the education and training of young New Yorkers from disadvantaged backgrounds.
