Meat and cheese are known for being high in fat, so unsurprisingly manufacturers are coming up with healthier versions. You can now buy reduced-fat cold meats, cheese and paté. However, they often don't have the same taste or texture, because they're higher in water content and lower in fat.
Our nutritionist says: "High-fat meat and cheese are standard 'treats' or 'luxuries' for dieters. However, you're better off having the full-fat version and having them less often than having the low-fat versions more often, because you'll enjoy them more and you won't be as tempted to have another piece. The one exception: cheese spreads, which have excellent low-fat versions."
