Doubles, singles and mixed
Doubles and mixed doubles are played on a full court with tramlines. Doubles is 'more fun' and less tiring, and can be played at any age. It also promotes team spirit, unlike singles. It requires a lot of tactics and co-ordination because you're not just adjusting to your opponent: you also have to adjust to your partner and anticipate what he or she's doing on court (and in which direction they're heading!).

Practice makes perfect
Tennis is a highly technical sport, so if you want to learn it properly take lessons from a professional coach and play regularly at a club. For a list of tennis clubs in your area, click here.
