Milk and anything made from it (yoghurt, cheese, etc) are almost complete nutrients and they are an essential part of a balanced, healthy diet. They bring you the following:
Calcium. Calcium found in dairy produce is the easiest to assimilate, and alongside fruit and veg, dairy produce is one of the richest food groups in calcium. It's essential for building and maintaining healthy bones, cells, muscles and a healthy heart.
Protein. Dairy products are our second source of protein after meat, and they contain good quality protein (high quantities of essential amino acids).
Minerals and trace elements. Dairy produce contains around 700mg phosphorus, potassium, sodium and other minerals per 100g, not forgetting trace elements such as zinc and selenium, which are both antioxidants.
Vitamins. From A (essential for growth, sight and skin) to D (helps absorb calcium) via all the Bs, B1, B2, B9 and B12 (essential for all cell upkeep and renewal in the body), dairy produce is packed with vitamins.
Lactose. A low-sugar carb containing 65% saturated fatty acids and 35% unsaturated fatty acids.
