Having said that, an electric barbecue is perfect for small balconies and patios, thanks to a water reservoir which limits smoke and absorbs smells.

Gas barbecues don’t need a plug, making them perfect for the bottom of a long garden.  

Finally, if you don’t want to invest, disposable barbecues make a great alternative.
 
A double grill, or barbecue basket can help turn meat to limit burning, otherwise a decent pair of tongs, flat, rather than round skewers and grill brushes for marinades and basting are essential, as well as a knife, chopping board and plenty of aluminium foil.
