The 79th annual Oscars took place on Sunday, and the biggest night in showbiz didn't disappoint.

The red carpet was rolled out, the champagne flowed, and the stars of the big screen were out in force...

In recent years, the ceremony has become just as well-known for fashion as for being the night when the film industry honours its élite with the most coveted prizes in the biz. A good Oscar outfit ensures maximum tabloid coverage and fondling designers fighting over who gets to dress you next, while a serious faux pas can haunt you for years to come...remember that swan contraption worn by Bjork, complete with egg? And no, we haven't seen her much on the red carpet since either.   

Director Martin Scorcese and his thriller The Departed took home the biggest awards, while the night was also a triumph for our very own Helen Mirren, who took Best Actress for her role in The Queen.
