Colourful and feminine, Lacoste has worked continuously on its image. Since 1951, the cotton shirt has been available in a variety of colours. A children's range was introduced in the 1960s, as were shorts and stripy polo shirts.
But the brand, loved by sportsmen and women for its simple chic, hasn't just stuck to sportswear. In 1963, René Lacoste invented the first steel tennis racket: a revolution in tennis which challenged the supremacy of the wooden racket and paved the way for today's rackets. Jimmy Connors and Billie Jean King both won Grand Slam titles with the Lacoste racket.
