Why undergo screening?

 

- Why undergo screening?
Screening can detect problems in the baby's chromosomes, particularly Down's Syndrome, hereditary, sex-specific illnesses and problems of the central nervous system. 

A sample of amniotic fluid is taken and analysed and a karyotype of the fetus' chromosomes can be drawn up.

If screening shows up any anomalies, you can make the decidion to abort the baby if you wish to.
