In any case, a dummy isn't a very clean object: it get trailed along everywhere, falls on the floor and gets shoved back in without being cleaned.
And that's aside from the risk of passing on germs: at crèche or school, staff may return the wrong dummy to the wrong child, or children may swap dummies themselves.
