Dentists and orthodontists aren't huge fans of the dummy.
For a long time was thought that dummies reduce, if not avoid prevent, palatal and dental deformation, ideas have changed.
We talked to an orthodontist and dentist who said that dummies aren't scientifically all that sound, despite the manufacturers' promises, and that thumb-sucking is better, "as long as it doesn't go on for too long, as it can damage the formation of the palate".
But in both cases, neither thumb nor dummy are recommended, because "any foreign body pushes back the teeth, prevents the two jaws from placing themselves one above the other and causes deformation of a baby's bone structure".
