Weakened pelvic floor muscles

Not all women are exposed to the same risks of weakened pelvic floor muscles.

Certain factors make some women more susceptible to these problems: the birth of a big baby (more than 3.7kg) or a baby whose cranial perimeter is larger than 35.5cm.

It can also result from abdominal pressure after the baby is delivered and from the use of forceps.

The risks are also increased from third pregnancies onwards.
