Combined with a balanced
diet, regular
exercise will kick-start
weight loss and attack your fat reserves in particular (and that's just in the 1-2 weeks after you give
birth!).
To ease your body into weight loss, ideally you should start off with cardiovascular exercise such as
power walking, swimming or cycling, all of which are perfect for getting back into exercise without stressing your joints. Note that your metabolism starts to break down fat after 25 to 30 minutes of slow, sustained exercise, so spend
at least 30 minutes per day doing one of these three. Bear in mind that the duration and frequency of your workouts are more important than the intensity.
After a few weeks you can start
running or doing gym-based exercise such as aerobics, which burn more energy and also eat into your fat reserves. Always remember to drink water before, during and after your sessions, and do some stretches to lengthen and oxygenate your muscles.
