It's normal to have disturbed sleep during
pregnancy.
"Doctors have noticed that pregnant women often prefer to sleep during the day and find it difficult to sleep at night, but it hasn't been established whether this is because of hormonal or psychological reasons", notes
gynaecologist Dr Goupil-Rousseau
.
Nightmares occur frequently during pregnancy, particularly in first time
pregnancies. They're not a sign of complications: they simply reveal your deepest fears and apprehensions. Catch up on your sleep with short siestas if you can, and have a light dinner in the evening to aid sleep.
However, if you suffer from regular insomnia and cannot sleep during the day, see your doctor: you need as much energy as possible to ensure a healthy pregnancy and to make sure your
baby is nourished properly.
