Before the 6th month

Babies born before the 6th month are classed as ‘extremely premature.’

Such tiny babies weigh very little (between 1 and 1.5 kilos) and their vital organs cannot function on their own. They have no immune system and can’t defend themselves against infections.

Extremely premature babies need intensive care right from the start and unfortunately their chances of survival are lower.
