There are rumours circulating that several Second Lifers have already made their fortune in the virtual universe, but nothing has been proven - yet! According to one source, "The money circulating in the virtual world of Second Life was thought to be over £3 million in February 2007, but only 300 people in the 'real' world had an account with over £500 in it, out of 300,000 regular users".
This hasn't prevented many businesses and individuals from trying their luck in what they see as a new El Dorado. Encouraged no doubt by the last census by Linden Lab, the creators of Second Life. In October 2006, there were 12,784 profit-making businesses doing virtual business on SL.
