Sorry - getting a tattoo no longer makes you a bona fide rebel! Gone are the days when you had to wear long sleeves in front of your boyfriend's parents. Today, body art is a sign of distinction and belonging. There's a certain irony in that some people think it's an act of rebellion when in fact they're joining the very large club of people with tattoos!
Tattoos have been described as "a silent act of dissidence; a way of showing you're different while still belonging to society" that allow people to exchange information such as "mutual experiences, personal discoveries and, the reputation of the tattoo artist." Basically, people with tattoos aren't solitary rebels - they're actually very sociable!
