Not everyone has experienced a divorce party, with champagne, music and crazy dancing, but this special type of party is becoming more and more commonplace as the divorce rate gets ever the higher.
"Of my group of friends, 5 of us were married ten years ago. Now 2 of us are divorced and one friend has just broken up with her husband," says Marie, 33, who was surprised to receive an invitation to a divorce party.
High divorce rate
The figures speak for themselves: 1 marriage in 3 ends in divorce, and even more (1 in 2) end in separation. Marking a separation is something of a ritual, which is just as common as a birth or marriage itself in theory.
Couples are also divorcing much earlier than they used to, which is only natural as marriages are lasting for less and less time. As a result, today's divorcees are younger, more comfortable with their newly-single status, and less reluctant to celebrate the end of their marriage than before.
