The 'useful' gift

A hoover. A blender. A washing machine. Enough said.

What more could a girl ask for? Just because you might be the one who does the cooking and cleaning most of the time doesn’t mean you enjoy it, so woe betide anyone who gets us an ironing board for Christmas! 

Under the guise of giving you a ‘useful’ present, anyone who gives you a hoover for Christmas is trying to reinforce your role as cook and cleaner. Otherwise, it could be a sly dig at your housekeeping skills: if your mother-in-law starts giving you blenders or steamers for Christmas it’s a sure sign she doesn’t think you’re capable of cooking for her precious son!
