Prevention and Screening

The only way to really protect yourself from Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs), is to use a condom.  However, if you have had unprotected sex, make sure you are tested for STDs and AIDS before sleeping with anyone else.  Go to your local GUM clinic (Genito-Urinary Medicine clinc at your local hospital), or contact a Family Planning Centre for more information.  Avoid oral sex if you have oral or genital herpes (coldsores), as they are are highly contagious.

Remember that it's your responsibility to protect your own sexual health and fertility.  visit the Family Planning Association's Website for more info at www.fpa.org.uk.  It also contains a list of clinics and helplines if you think you may need help.
