Prostate removal

With age, the prostate can cause problems. It can get too big and interfere with urination, or it can become cancerous. It must therefore be removed.

How is it treated?
When the prostate is simply too big or if it contains an adenoma, it can be removed under general anaesthetic by natural methods, via the urethra. When cancer is involved, the operation is more complicated because it's absolutely necessary that all cancerous cells are removed. This is not carried out using natural methods.

Results 
Removing the prostate is surgically not a problem. Concerning sexual activity, things can get complicated. Prostate problems, even before surgery, often affect the man's erection. After surgery, he won't have an erection for several weeks because the treated area has suffered a shock which it needs to get over. When the procedure takes place as a result of an adenoma or enlarged prostate, erections generally return, with or without treatment.
When the surgery is needed because of cancer, the erection returns if the surgeon has been able to conserve the erectile nerves. Even if this is the case, it's often necessary to get treatment to help erections return. When the erectile nerves have been cut, the erection cannot spontaneously reappear. These problems should be discussed with the surgeon so they can be dealt with as necessary.
