We're so desperate to know what's 'normal' when it comes to sex that we want to talk numbers, figures, scales, averages and statistics...
From adolescence, boys like comparing the size of their manhood and having a quick peek at their friends' in the changing room or in the shower to check how theirs measures up! In the same way, we'd all like to know what happens in our neighbours' bedrooms. How many times a week do they have sex? How long does it last? Do they do it more than once a night? We always think that it would just help to know, to be able to reassure ourselves we're normal or situate ourselves on some sort of sexual scale.

And we can but wonder! Other people's sexuality remains a mystery to us. According to the statisticians, people rarely tell the truth about their sex lives, and prefer to say what they think is the norm: 2-3 times a week. It is tempting to make it seem more exciting than it is, boast about your sexual prowess and spice up your erotic stories a little, and very few people resist the temptation to exaggerate a little! The result? A jumbled mess of preconceived ideas and complexes about sex and what's 'normal.'
