Many of us like to get as far away from home as possible on our summer break and head to faraway climes. But if you're changing time zones and you're on the Pill, you have more than just jet-lag to cope with: you need to work out when to take your pill.
How to change:
- If you're travelling east with a time difference of less than 12 hours, don't change your regular time, whatever Pill you're on. If you take your pill at 11 o'clock at night at home, take it at 11 o'clock local time.
- If you're travelling west, it depends on the type of pill you're on:
If you can 'forget' your pill for up to 12 hours: either you don't change your time and you might get a very slight bleed, or you change the time you take your pill. For example: with a 6-hour difference, if you take your pill at 11 o'clock at home, take it at 5 o'clock local time.
If you can only 'forget' your pill for up to 3 hours: either you take the time difference into account and bring the time you take your pill forward when you get there, otherwise you take your pill in the evening the day you arrive and continue taking it at that time.
