Expert views on not wanting children

Our psychotherapist says: 
Laura's suffering from Peter Pan syndrome: she doesn't want to be an adult and she doesn't want commitment. Not wanting children is one of the symptoms of a refusal to grow up. But you can't act like you're 20 when you're 30, at the end of the day. Laura's problem may be that when she was 20, she couldn't do what she wanted - but she can't make up for lost time by reliving her youth today. Besides, living the life of a student when you're in your thirties often brings solitude. For a start, Laura's friends won't stay stuck in their youth forever and they could leave her behind. 

Our sociologist says:  
Today's thirtysomethings had their 'innocent' youth stolen away from them in one sense: they grew up at a time when there was constant talk of the threats of unemployment, recession, AIDS, and so on, and they learned responsibility at a very young age. As a result, once they get into a comfortable situation in life, they feel the need to have fun, re-live their youth and experience the taste of risk.
