Fashion addicts waiting to see a spectacular show from Dior were far from disappointed. This season marks the 60th anniversary of the brand and simultaneously 10 years of John Galliano at the head of women's fashion. For this occasion, Bernard Arnault, chairman of Dior and president of the LVMH group, agreed to throw a big party. And because at Dior, nothing is ever lavish enough, John Galliano held a reception at the Château de Versailles.
The show carried a 'Bal des Artistes' theme, and debuted with Gisele Bündchen appearing in a 'Ligne H' black suit. Based on a model from the Fifties, this scintillating version, with a cluster of lily of the valley flowers at the rear of the flared basque jacket, was in honour of Irving Penn, famous fashion photographer. Following this same principle, as a type of homage, each model elicited the colours or aesthetics of a renowned artist.
Along with Gisele Bündchen, top models Karen Mulder, Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell and Lily Cole graced the runway in extraordinary, voluminous attire.
