Chanel personnel must have been rather disappointed to see their haute couture show spoilt by a deluge of rain. Weeks of preparation and an immense amount of organisation to welcome clients and press to see their stupefying show, yet all greeted by incessant rain. But so what? Chanel doesn't do impossible.
With stilettos digging into the damp gravel, the models initiated a fairylike procession. This season, the emphasis is placed on large sunglasses, decorated with gems or feathers. Already introduced in a previous collection, Karl Lagerfeld takes the allure of woman-cum-bird one step further. Hair tied back, the models display swan-like strokes of kohl at the corner of their eyes.
Each model expresses lightness, femininity and finesse. Karl Lagerfeld asserts his talent through historic references that feature futurist elements. It's a very slick manoeuvre to inject yet more modernity into a Chanel collection… even in the realm of haute couture.
