Things were a little more political at Christian Lacroix, as LVMH showed off one of their star brands, which could soon be bought by duty-free group Falic in the near future. Lacroix dutifully pulled out all the stops, showing gowns worthy of the most extravagant stage production. The genius colourist used acid sorbet tones of fuchsia, voilet, rosewood, grapefruit and apricot, on feather-light muslin, for a mouthwatering blaze of colour. Shades were darkened for taffeta eveningwear, with midnight blue and black emphasising splendid full skirts in lace, raffia and shocking pink shot with silver embroidery.Shapes were full, showcasing couture finishing - embroidered linings, jewelled bodices and dustings of Swarovski crystal were everywhere. But it was the full gypsy skirts that showed his unparalleled cutting mastery, drawing sighs from his devoted audience, as the designer came out at the end of the show. The sale of his House shouldn't clip Lacroix's creative wings, so much the better for the fashion world.
