Anne Hathaway tuned in to 'Emmerdale' to gain inspiration for her 'One Day' character, Emma Morley.
The 28-year-old actress - who appears opposite British actor Jim Sturgess in the new movie, which documents the lives of two friends who meet up on the same day every year for two decades - learned about her Yorkshire-born alter-ego by watching the ITV1 soap, which is set in the Northern county.
She told BANG Showbiz: "I googled a lot and tracked people down and talked about it. I guess the largest bit of outside research I did was I just watched 'Emmerdale' a lot. I found that really helpful!
"'Emmerdale's great. We don't have programmes like that in America so it was actually quite exotic for me."
However, Anne isn't the only star to have studied a TV programme to learn how to perfect a role.
Brenda Blethyn recently confessed she learned to refine her Geordie accent for the role of Detective Inspector Vera Stanhope in ITV1 drama 'Vera' by watching Cheryl Cole on 'The X Factor'.
She told BANG Showbiz: "I listened to Cheryl Cole quite a lot and watched 'The X Factor'. Now I have a lovely little voice, pet. I want to get a pair of those trousers with the slits up the side for the next series."
