Jay Z is taking up a 22-day vegan challenge to improve his health. The Watch The Throne rapper announced his diet experiment on his blog, where the father-of-one admitted that he hopes it will be both a “physical and spirit cleanse”. What’s more is that his wife Beyoncé will be joining him – although one-year-old daughter Blue Ivy will be most likely sitting this one out!

Jay Z and Beyoncé will be going temporarily vegan for a 22-day challenge to see if they can change their eating habits.

The Picasso Baby rapper admitted on his blog that they started on 3rd December, one day before his 44th birthday.

He explains the motivation behind his decision to opt for what he calls a “plant-based” diet, revealing: “Psychologists have said it takes 21 days to make or break a habit. On the 22nd day, you’ve found the way.

“This all began a few months back when a good friend and vegan challenged me to embrace a ‘plant-based breakfast’ everyday. It was surprisingly easier on me than I thought…”

But before you say – ‘Jay what about Christmas day?! What about Christmas turkey?! The rapper has sussed it all out so that he still gets to eat a traditional festive feast.

“There’s something spiritual to me about it being my 44th birthday and the serendipity behind the number of days in this challenge; 22 (2+2=4) coupled with the fact that the challenge ends on Christmas day…It just feels right!”

Clearly getting into the swing of veganism, Bey and Jay were spotted in West Hollywood grabbing some food at popular vegan eatery Real Food Daily.

They’re currently in Los Angeles for Beyoncé’s Mrs Carter Show World Tour, which finally wraps up in New York later this month.

For those keen to see how Jay and B get on, the rapper promises: “I will post my progress.”

Although he asks for a little help in finding suitable places for him and his wife to dine, adding: “Any professional vegans out there that have any great food spots please help out! Please ha.”

In terms of whether this will turn into the A-list musical pair becoming full-time vegans, Jay Z himself admits he has no idea.

“I don’t know what happens after Christmas. A semi-vegan, a full plant-based diet? Or just a spiritual and physical challenge? We’ll see…”

Well good luck Jay Z and Beyoncé! We hope it goes well.
