Celebrities tweet horror at Dark Knight Colorado shooting

The world is reeling from the news that at least twelve people are dead and 38 are injured following a senseless shooting in a packed cinema waiting to see a midnight showing of The Dark Knight Rises in Colorado.

The gunman is believed to have thrown a smoke grenade into the packed theatre before opening fire on the people inside.

Victims of the act of violence include a three-month old baby and the youngest fatality is believed to be just 12 years old.

Celebrities have taken to Twitter to express their shock at this terrible tragedy.

Eva Longoria tweeted: “My heart goes out to all the people affected in the Aurora, CO shooting. May God be with that town and their families...”

Jessica Simpson wrote: “Praying for the victims and families of those involved in the shooting in Colorado. My heart is broken. So awful. God Bless...”

E! Entertainment news host Ryan Seacrest said on the social networking site: “Thinking about the families who were affected by this horrible incident in Colorado. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.”

Echoing the feelings of many, fellow E! Entertainment host Giuliana Rancic tweeted: “Chills & tears watching coverage of #Aurora shootings. Praying for the innocent lives lost & those in hospital. What a tragedy.”

It has been announced that the Paris premiere of the new Batman film has been cancelled following the shooting.
