They wrote on their official Twitter account: "Dear Alouders, we just want to say from the bottom of our hearts Thank you!! This tour has been an amazing experience and the perfect chance to say thank you for being on this journey with us through a decade.
"It has far exceeded any of our dreams and we hope we are forever your inspiration and reminder that dreams really do glitter!!
"Your love and support will stay with us forever but we have now come to the end of our incredible time together. Love you lots."
The group's fans were devastated at the news and hours later, Nadine took to her personal Twitter account to suggest she wasn't happy about the break-up.
She wrote: "You should know by now I had no part in any of this split business. I couldn't stop them. I had the best time & want to keep going. Xxxx."
Nadine has long been considered the black sheep of the band - she moved to America during Girls Aloud's three-year hiatus and seemingly separated herself from Cheryl Cole, Kimberley Walsh, Nicola Roberts and Sarah Harding.
The 27-year-old also failed to launch a solo career during this time, while Geordie Cheryl achieved huge success.
Nadine's fans were quick to therefore blame Cheryl's A-list status for the split.
One replied: "oooh honey, we know who it was. All hail queen Cheryl... Go make some solo shit hun. X."
Another tweeted: "#Blamecheryl".
Cheryl has remained quiet on Twitter since the band's announcement, but her posts ahead of their Liverpool gig did hint that the band were calling it quits.
The 29-year-old wrote: "Last show !!! When did that happen ??! It was just 5 minutes ago we were starting rehearsals! Feel like I've been in a time machine.
"And now we're here !! One of my favourite places ever for the last show !! Liverpool!!! LETS GOOOOO..."
She added: "To the people that haven't been able to make it, for what ever reason, we feel your support regardless and have done for 10 yrs.
"To the people that have been to almost as many shows as we have lol let's make this a celebration of the past 10 years."
Nicola, 27, hasn't addressed Nadine's Tweet but instead posted emotional messages to the group's fans after the news of the split.
She wrote: "Forever Alouder's.. Thankyou from all the corners of my heart. You made my dreams come true when I was so young, we are a decade in and..you've given us more than I ever imagined.
"Memories & Dreams that I will hold in my heart forever. Sisters who I will never let leave my side.
"Who only could have known how crazy our journey would be but we have the best fans in the whole wide world beside us. This is true..
"Today has been teary and my eyes are swollen. Its the start of a new chapter, lets smile and celebrate what we did together..
"Love u. Forever an Alouder. Nicola x."
