Tre Holloway hasn't quite managed to win over Cheryl Cole's mum just yet.

Joan Tweedy is reportedly "wary" or the backing dancer, who's been linked to Cheryl since they were spotted on a string of dates last week.

A friend told The Sun: “It’s early days and she isn’t 100 per cent sure of Tre yet. He looks good on Cheryl’s arm but Joan fears he will not be there for her long term.”

Joan is understandably protective of her daughter since her divorce from Ashley Cole, 31, two years ago.

The Geordie singer and her footballer husband broke up amid claims he'd cheated with a number of women.

The friend added: “Any man dating Cheryl should be aware they have to pass the vigorous test and standards set by Joan.

“She sees herself as more of a protecting force than ever. As it stands Tre has a long way to go before he is accepted.”

Tre, 27, is the first man Cheryl has been linked to since her reported romance with 27-year-old dancer Derek Hough.

But it seems Joan isn't the only one worried about the Girls Aloud star's new romance.

Tre's mum Shirley Holloway is also concerned - but more for the welfare of her son.

She said: "She might hurt him. She’s been married before."

Though Shirley says she doesn't know Cheryl, she had suspected her son had fallen for the Geordie beauty.

She said: "I’ve only seen pictures on the internet. Tre said she was pretty big (in the UK). He’s been dancing for her for a couple of years now, I think.

“He mentioned that one day last month they went somewhere. He never said she was his girlfriend. But he said, ‘Oh, she likes me’. I got the feeling he was maybe quite into her.”

She added: “Of course I’m curious to meet her. If this is a serious relationship then I’m looking forward to meeting her because I trust Tre’s judgment.

“If he likes her, then she must be a good person.”
