Chris Brown denies "battered woman" tattoo is Rihanna
The singer, who beat ex-girlfriend Rihanna
black and blue in 2009, has had the image of what looks like a woman's battered face etched onto his neck.
The artwork quickly caused uproar after he put it on display in Las Vegas this month, with many speculating that it was some kind of twisted tribute to RiRi.
But 23-year-old Chris has insisted this isn't the case.
His rep explained to TMZ: "His tattoo is a sugar skull (associated with the Mexican celebration of the Day of the Dead) and a MAC
cosmetics design he saw. It is not Rihanna or an abused woman as erroneously reported."
After Rihanna was attacked three years ago, a disturbing photo was made public that showed her with swollen lips
and seemingly black eyes.
And Chris' tattoo similarly displays a woman with bruises and plump lips.
But TMZ reports that Chris picked out the design after seeing it on an advert and took it to the tattoo parlour.
Chris and Rihanna, 24, sparked rumours they could be getting back together after they were seen kissing
and hugging at the MTV VMAs last week.
Though Chris is now dating
model Karrueche Tran, Rihanna
recently confessed that he was the love of her life.
She told Oprah Winfrey: "It's awkward because I still love him. My stomach drops, and I have to maintain this poker face and not let it get to the outer part of me.
"I have to maintain that and suppress it, interpret it and understand it, and understand that that's not going to go away.
"When you don't understand those feelings, you can make a lot of mistakes."
