Helen Flanagan was famously scolded by Coronation Street bosses for dying her hair peroxide blonde. The producers ordered the soap actress to dye her hair back to brunette and put in extensions to look like her character Rosie Webster. But since leaving the hit ITV soap after 12 years, Helen’s been free to dye her hair whatever colour she wants. The 22-year-old has taken full advantage of this fact and opted for a dramatic new look which she debuted on Twitter.

The actress, who celebrated her birthday yesterday, excitedly posted a whole host of pics showing off her new long blonde locks.

Appearing to revel in the freedom to play with her hair colour, Helen wrote on Twitter: “I look exactly like my little sister @jnflanagan x My dads blonde, aunties, cousins... I love it #feelflanagan.”

When asked by her followers what inspired the striking hair colour change, the former soap star explained: “Wanted a fresh for my 22nd bday coming up... Had it done at Daniel Hersheson by the amazing @DemetriouVicky.”

It appears the retired soap star spent the majority of her birthday posting photos of her presents and cards on Twitter and re-tweeting birthday wishes from her followers and former Corrie co-stars.

Among those she thanked for their birthday tweets were former castmates and Corrie stars Samia Ghadie, Jennie McAlpine, Georgia Foote, Brooke Vincent, Catherine Tyldesley, Vicky Entwistle and Ryan Thomas.

Helen also showed off an expensive-looking ring with a large blue stone from boyfriend Scott Sinclair.

Since leaving Coronation Street, Helen has relocated to Wales to be with her Swansea City professional footballer boyfriend, who most recently played with Team GB at the Men's Football Quarter Final on Saturday.
