Rylan Clark’s family upset to be "snubbed" at X Factor birthday bash
star Rylan Clark
has become the most notorious contestant in the 2012 singing competition, but it looks like he’s in danger of letting his newfound fame go to his head.
ITV show bosses threw the wannabe singer a 24th birthday party at celeb hotspot Mahiki and the excited birthday boy invited all of his friends and family.
But according to reports Rylan spent most of the night filming behind a security barrier, leaving his guests frozen out from the party and unable to join in the celebrations.
His relatives were overheard angrily complaining, and The Mirror reports that one family member raged: “What’s the point of coming if we aren’t even going to get to speak to him?”
An onlooker said: “A lot of people made the trek from Essex for what was meant to be his birthday party but he spent most of the night behind both a cordon and security. No one could get close.”
As well as family, Rylan invited some of his famous Essex mates including previous X Factor contestants 2 Shoes and former TOWIE star Harry Derbidge.
But all of Rylan’s attention was taken up by his current X Factor mates who were filming for Saturday’s episode of the show.
His mentor Nicole Scherzinger
made sure he had a birthday to remember and jumped out of a cake wearing nothing but a tiny red leather basque and fishnets.
The former Pussycat Doll serenaded him by singing happy birthday in a Marilyn Monroe-style and draped herself on Rylan’s lap.
One partygoer told The Mirror: “Rylan joked he was suddenly confused about his sexuality after seeing her emerge from a cake.
“In fact it seemed to have got him so worked up that he was taking full advantage of the free drink swigging rum straight from the bottle.
“Union J, who were dressed as zombies, were also knocking back beers like there was no tomorrow.”
The District 3 boys, meanwhile, were dressed as devils and clearly up for exploiting their newfound fame.
A source said: “Mickey gave his number to a girl he met there and they have been texting ever since.
“They didn’t get home until 4am and had to be up at 8am for group rehearsal.”
But it seems that not all of the X Factor contestants got in the party spirit, with openly religious Jahmene Douglas reportedly refusing to dress up, telling show bosses: “My costume is on the inside.”
According to sources he kept trying to leave the birthday bash but the producers forced him to stick around until filming was finished.
A source added: “He’s not much of a party animal like the others.”
Poor Jade Ellis was unable to go and Ella Henderson missed the party because she’s underage.
A show insider said: “Ella is only 16 so we couldn’t allow her to go out clubbing.
“She got to go on a ghost tour with the other contestants.”
