X Factor 2012: Tulisa defends poor chart position
The X Factor judge's debut solo track Young went straight to No. 1 in the UK top 40 back in April - but Live It Up peaked at a less impressive No. 11 on Sunday.
Tulisa is adamant she released the single so the public could have a proper taster of her new album.
Tulisa told Radio 1's Newsbeat: “I said I don’t know if it will even get into the top 10.
“With that single it was strategic to sell the album. I’m not trying to get a number one with this one.
“I know it’s urban. I know that it’s probably not going to chart high. I want to show a different side to the album. For me it’s a bigger picture.”
Despite Tulisa's brave words, she's bound to be feeling a little embarrassed as she was beaten by two X Factor acts.
Amelia Lily - who finished third in the singing contest in 2011 - was chuffed after her debut single You Bring Me Joy reached Number two in the charts.
The 17-year-old tweeted: "‘Thank you so much to every single one of you who have bought my single! Cannot believe I’m number 2 in the charts! I’m so grateful!!!xxx."
Furthermore, Tulisa's winning band Little Mix from last year's series had more reason to celebrate than their former mentor.
Three weeks after the release of their second single, Wings, the four-piece girl group still charted higher than Tulisa, at number four.
But there's no bad blood between Tulisa, 24, and her "Little Muffins", as she's still in regular contact with them.
Little Mix admitted earlier this year that it would be difficult to see Tulisa mentoring a new set of contestants on the 2012 series of X Factor.
Jade Thirlwall, 19, joked: "It's going to be really weird, she's ours and now she's going to be going off with someone else - I feel like she's cheating on us.
"It's Team Tulisa all the way so we're going to support every act that she has - so bring it on."
