The trio - friends Greg West, Dan Ferrari-Lane and Mickey Parsons - want to avoid being confused with a popular daytime show.

Mickey said: "Fans keep thinking we are called GMTV."

And it seems mentor Louis Walsh - who last night chose GMD3 along with Union J and MK1 as his final three acts - is pretty keen for the name change.

Greg added: "Even our mentor Louis can't remember it."

The group have also admitted that the moniker must go because it is already registered to an American company.

They tweeted from the band's account: "Help us 3eeks!!! We have to change the name and we can't do it without your help!

"We have to change the name cause some pipeline company has ownership in US :( Help us 3eeks... we need you to help us!"

And it seems the group have already got a huge following, as the email account set up for fans' name suggestions - xfactor@fremantlemediauk.com - crashed.

They tweeted: "SO many suggestions our email inbox imploded. It's working again now, so send in your #GMD3namechange suggestions."

GMD3's predicament has echoes of last year's competition, which saw Little Mix change their name from Rhythmix after a threat of legal action from a charity with the same title.

It worked out pretty well for them.
