X Factor boss Simon Cowell had a "breakdown" this summer
The X Factor
US and UK boss - who also heads up Britain's and America's Got Talent - reportedly had to take a step back from auditions in America because he felt like his nocturnal lifestyle was turning him into a "weird vampire".
Simon, 52, told his X Factor colleague Louis Walsh: "I don't want any more tablets and pills. I'm cutting out the lot, including cigarettes.
"I desperately need peace. I'm craving normality. I've got to work out my demons and come out of it.
"I have to get back to where I was years ago. I had to stop reading texts at three in the morning and making calls later and later. I wanted peace."
It is in an updated new chapter of Tom Bower's book Sweet Revenge: The Intimate Life Of Simon Cowell, that it's claimed the music mogul told Louis, 60, of his struggles.
He also apparently later told friends that the constant flying between continents was getting too much: "My life was like a night shift. I'd forgotten the sensation of the morning."
Former BBC journalist Tom's tell-all book was released earlier this year and hit the headlines when it claimed Simon had a fling with former X Factor judge Dannii Minogue, 40.
Simon was quoted as saying: "I had a crush on her. It was Dannii's hair, the sexy clothes and the tits. I was like a schoolboy.
"She was foxy. She was a real man's girl. Very feminine."
