X Factor bosses have reportedly introduced a new twist that they no doubt hope will boost the show's dwindling viewing figures.

X Factor news: Show twist will give hopefuls second chance

This weekend will see judges Gary Barlow, Tulisa Contostavlos, Louis Walsh and Nicole Scherzinger choose their final three acts for the live shows.

But on Sunday's episode they will each be seen picking a wildcard hopeful to be given a second chance.

The four wildcards from each category will then face a public vote, with just one being chosen to get through to the live stages of the programme and be part of the final 13.

A source told The Sun: "We like to add new twists to the show every year and this time the public get to choose an act to be added to the competition.

"With the standard so high this year, the judges had a tough time choosing their three, so this gives another amazing act the chance to perform on the X Factor stage."

Voting lines will open at the end of the show on Sunday.

This weekend will see Gary enlist the help of former panellist Cheryl Cole to decide on his final acts.

Though he'd originally decided to take the over 28s to Barcelona, this is believed to have been scrapped following the tragic loss of his stillborn daughter Poppy.

Instead, Gary reportedly decided on the (reasonably) down-to-earth location of Northamptonshire's Boughton House - though this didn't stop Chezza arriving by helicopter.

Louis' decision to abandon his usual location of Ireland and head to Las Vegas with Sharon Osbourne has caused upset.

One of his groups - Rough Copy - has had to pull out because of visa issues.

Former N-Dubz star Tulisa and her rapper pal Tinie Tempah travelled to St Lucia with the girls.

Finally, newbie Nicole Scherzinger decided to head to scorching hot Dubai, where Ne-Yo helped her make some tough decisions.

Tune in to ITV at 8pm tomorrow evening for all the drama...and no doubt copious amounts of tears.
