Following a celebratory memorial event held in Central London yesterday to remember Body Shop founder and activist Dame Anita Roddick, The Body Shop and the Helen Bamber Foundation are launching a campaign to stop the trafficking of women into the UK, an issue Anita felt passionately about.
Anita's daughter Sam Roddick and actress Emma Thompson, Chair of the Trustees for the Helen Bamber Foundation, are urging people to back the campaign to get the government to ratify a convention to protect women and girls who have been trafficked in the UK - an estimated 4,000 a year are imprisoned in brothels and forced to handle 40 'clients' a day.
You can sign the petition on the Body Shop International website (address below). A set of limited edition postcards designed by graphic designer Michael Dempsey is also on sale in 300 Body Shop stores. Profits will go to the Helen Bamber Foundation.
“If you think you’re too small to make a difference, you’ve never been to bed with a mosquito.” Dame Anita Roddick
