Backstage at Basso & Brooke’s hotly anticipated show was an oasis of calm, scented with Basso & Brooke candles, people sipping on specially blended Red Bull Caipirinha cocktails and a L’Oréal Paris Resist & Shine nail station where you could grab a manicure with colours from the latest range (the models were having a natural pinky beige colour applied in L’Oréal Paris Resist & Shine Milky Beige).
In keeping with Basso & Brooke's edgy designs, the make up look was pure rock and roll, with three different colour ways used in grey, green and purple. James Kaliardos, international make up artist for L’Oréal Paris, was inspired by, " a rock opera…. and girls like Kate Moss and Irina who are coming back from a party rather than going to the party and look just as cool."
For this season's key grey look, eyes were given a rock feel with L’Oréal Paris Color Appeal eyeshadow in Starry Night brushed into the crease of the eye and dragged out quite straight leaving a space just under the eye brow, which made the shadow look airbrushed on. Contour Khol Indigo Blue pencil was drawn in the inside of the lower lash and Color Appeal Duo eyeshadow in Sea and Sand was smudged thickly on top of the liner and winged out. The eyelids were dusted with Color Minerals Pearly Rose 02 and the shadow was then taken onto the face to highlight the cheekbones.
All the girls had the white shadow applied down the nose and in the Cupid’s bow to highlight the face. Cheeks were sculpted using the darker shade of Glam Bronze Duo Powder in Blonde Harmony just under the cheekbone. Lips were blanked out with concealer and the perfect pink Glam Shine Natural Glow Lip gloss in Juicy Rose Glow was used.
Hairwise, rock reigned supreme. As stylist Stéphane Lancien explains, "the (Basso & Brooke) collection is very geometrical and I wanted to balance it with
hair you could find on the street. I wanted it to look sexy, spiky and very rock and roll". The look was created by blow drying the hair straight with a centre parting and then spraying Studio Line Indestructible Volume Spray in Extreme Hold onto sections of the hair, followed by running flat irons through the spritzed sections. Some girls also came down the catwalk adorned with Stephen Jones millinery creations, which looked like large embellished pebbles.
The word on the catwalk? This season, channel your inner rock chick and dig out some eye liner teamed with a layered textured skirt.
